Amazon ranks last, at 0%
Google AI Overviews: Amazon gets 2.1% of its citations, 3 times the next store, Ulta Beauty. Only YouTube, Reddit, Instagram and Facebook are cited more.
Perplexity: Amazon (1.7%), Alibaba and Etsy are almost level as its three go-to marketplaces.
ChatGPT and Gemini: ChatGPT ranks Amazon last and cites Walmart about 12 times as often. Amazon blocks OpenAI’s crawlers, which is a likely reason (Digiday). Gemini didn’t link to Amazon’s store at all.
Your Amazon listing works for you on Google and Perplexity. For ChatGPT and Gemini, your own website and other retailers matter more.
Amazon’s share of citations by month, for the same websites every month.
Perplexity went from 0 to top 10 in a month. It almost never cited Amazon from April to June. In July Amazon jumped to 1.4% of its citations. Of 126 websites tracked in both months, none saw Amazon cited in June and 65 did in July.
Google AI Overviews moved the other way: from 2.3% in April to 1.3% in September, down about 42%.
AI engines can switch a source on or off within a month. Check where your products are cited every month, not once a year.
7,270 links to Amazon’s store in AI answers, July – September 2026.
Almost half the links aren’t product pages. 47% point to Amazon’s own search results and Best Sellers lists, which show many products at once and suit “best” and “top” questions.
Perplexity cites search results as often as product pages (39.3% vs 39.2%). Google AI Overviews prefers product pages (47.3%).
Not just amazon.com: amazon.com gets 77% of the links and amazon.in 17%. Brands selling in India should check their amazon.in listings, not only amazon.com.
If you don’t show up in Amazon’s own search for your main product terms, AI engines won’t find you there either.
