Share of Model is an emerging metric that measures how prominently your brand is represented within the learned knowledge of a large language model itself, as opposed to how often it appears in live retrieved results. A brand with high Share of Model has enough presence in the training data and established web footprint that the model can describe it accurately, unprompted, without needing to retrieve external sources. It reflects the cumulative weight of a brand’s web authority, coverage, and entity establishment as encoded in the model’s parameters.
Share of Voice measures how often your brand appears in AI-generated responses across a set of test queries. Share of Model attempts to measure how deeply your brand is embedded in what the AI model itself already knows. The distinction matters because a brand with high Share of Model can be mentioned even in contexts where retrieval is not active, such as when a user asks a broad question in an offline or limited-retrieval mode. Share of Voice is measurable through response monitoring. Share of Model is inferred through testing model behavior across diverse, unprimed queries and observing how naturally and accurately the model describes your brand without external sources.
Why it matters: Share of Model is the long-game metric for AI brand visibility. It reflects the depth of brand authority that no short-term tactic can shortcut.
